With temperatures reaching over 40 degrees, Jessica married her best friend, now husband Ranga, in a beautiful garden ceremony at St Kilda Botanical Gardens.
I’m very, very lucky and thankful to have had such an easy-going couple who still kept a smile across their faces in temperatures that were sometimes unbearable. Jessica has since said that the heat seemed to add to the drama and magic of the day!
Jessica and Ranga, who met at a friend’s birthday, got engaged during a romantic picnic at the Botanical Gardens so it was very fitting that they were to be married in the garden. On the day of the proposal, Ranga got down on one knee and Jessica has since described it as ‘The most amazing moment of her life!’
Their Intimate Wedding Ceremony was held in the Rose Garden Rotunda with guests seated under the shade of market umbrellas. It was a beautiful sea of colour with guests receiving brightly coloured parasols to provide some comfort from the high temperatures. The beautiful lush, green hedges provided a very grand entrance for Jessica and her father who accompanied her down the aisle. Jessica and Ranga were hand-in-hand throughout the ceremony which was full of lovely Sri Lankan Traditions such as giving betel leaves (botanical name Piper betle) which are offered as a token of respect and the tying of the pinky fingers, signifying that they are now one. Water is poured over the fingers and the couple are blessed.
After the beautiful ceremony, we did a few family photographs and then headed off to the breathtaking venue Sails on the Bay in Elwood to cool off a little. The beaches of Elwood were full of people taking refuge in the water. Sails on the Bay offered the most perfect backdrop of the beautiful beach overlooking Port Phillip Bay and, come night, we were treated to the most magnificent sunset which made for beautiful photography and some of my favourite images from the night. More lovely traditions such as the lighting of the traditional brass oil lamp to signify good luck, unity, love and a new start were performed throughout the reception.
Jessica looked very elegant in her beautiful lace, full-skirted Pronovias gown. The stunning bridesmaids wore a gorgeous soft pink which tied in perfectly with the beautiful flowers from Victoria Whitelaw in South Yarra. And, of course, we can’t forget to mention our very cool and suave Groom, Ranga, in his tailored Hugo Boss Suit.
Jessica and Ranga – Thanks for being so cool and calm throughout your wedding day. I really enjoyed witnessing the lovely and moving traditional parts to the day. The love you have for one another and how natural you are towards each other made our job very enjoyable. Hope you enjoyed Hamilton Island on your honeymoon – its such a wonderful place! Andrew
Thank you also for your kind words, hope you don’t mind me sharing! – Thanks so much Andrew for all your wonderful work and attention to detail. Our wedding was so wonderful and more than we could have ever hoped for. It was fantastic to have such a professional there to document all those special moments. Jessica and Ranga
