Magnetic Island Destination Wedding Photography
I was very excited to travel to the beautiful Magnetic Island and work with Brett and Bec for their Destination Wedding Photography. Magnetic Island is a Ferry ride across from Townsville, situated in the beautiful Great Barrier Reef. More than half of the Island is untouched National Park and consists of some of the most beautiful beaches, rainforests and lookouts. What a beautiful place for a Wedding!
I arrived a few days early to have a look around, suss out natural lighting at the time of the wedding and to see why Brett and Bec loved this place so much. To my surprise the Island itself was fairly quiet. Each day more and more guests arrived filling up the Resorts and Hotels. It almost had the feeling of a private little island with the wedding party having the run of the beach and the local pub and stretching wedding celebrations over a few days.
I really enjoyed getting to know the families and bridal party more before the wedding and was stoked to be invited along to go Scuba Diving with the Groomsmen. It had been years since I’ve Scuba Dived and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Makes me even more excited about my plans to photograph underwater with my new underwater camera housing, over summer!
The wedding day was warm, I unwillingly switched my thongs and board shorts for my suit, tie and shoes and headed off to the boys. The boys were staying and getting ready in the beautiful Villa Kembali where instead of getting ready they were still lounging in the pool. I have to say I don’t blame them, in fact after we took a few photos of them getting ready, Im sure they all undressed and jumped in the pool again for one last cool down before the ceremony. From Villa Kembali I crossed over to Lotus House where the Bride and Bridesmaids were getting ready and also the destination of the Wedding. Lotus House is a Balinese style Villa situated directly on the beach in Horseshoe Bay. I can certainly see why Brett and Rebecca fell in love with it when the holidayed up here previously for Becs fathers Birthday.
Bec and the girls looked amazing! We were a little tight for time and with their guests arriving, we were restricted to where we could go as we didn’t want the guests to see Bec before the ceremony. The ceremony took place on the sand where Bec was accompanied by her father Gary, whom very proudly walked her down the isle. It was a beautiful ceremony followed by pre-dinner drinks whilst I photographed the bridal party on the beach.
As the sun went down the reception was also held at Lotus House with a beautiful setup in the garden with lanterns hanging above the tables. Thank-you Brett for the special mention in your speech in means a lot and was great to be part of your day!
Guests danced the remainder of the evening away under the stars with the sound of the waves crashing in on the beach in front of them. It was a magical wedding, with a sweet, young couple, with wonderful friends and family, full of fun and laughter at the very beautiful Magnetic Island.
Hope you are enjoying your honeymoon on Haymen Island guys! Talk soon.
