Mazel Tov Ilana and Paul- A Traditional Jewish Wedding at The Regent Plaza Ballroom

Mazel Tov Ilana and Paul!! We very much loved being part of this Jewish wedding between Ilana and Paul. The wedding was full of tradition and culture, fantastic people having so much fun at the amazing venue of the Regent Plaza Ballroom. The Regent Plaza Ballroom and the traditional Jewish settings were fantastic backdrops for Modern Wedding Photography.

Ilana and Paul went to high school together and it was on a beautiful Day Trip to the Top of the Eureka Tower that Paul proposed to Ilana, with the beautiful city of Melbourne beneath them. Ilana described it as amazing! Certainly a beautiful way to make someone feel on top of the world!

We started our day meeting Paul and his Groomsmen in Caulfield, whilst Ilana was getting ready at her parents house. We followed Paul as he made his way with all the men to Ilana. The men gathered in one room with Rabbi Helbruinn to sign the Ketubah, a Jewish legal document that confirms the religious bond of marriage. The men then made their way into Ilana. Ilana was sitting on an amazing, large cane chair with the company of all their guests. It was here that the traditional Bedeken ceremony took place.

Bedeken means “covering” in Yiddish. Traditionally, the groom will place the veil over the bride’s face. The custom begun in reference to a biblical account where Jacob was deceived and found himself married to veiled Leah instead of his intended bride Rachel. According to my studies some Modern Jewish couples choose to use the ritual of the lowering of the veil as a moment to look into each other’s eyes, allowing them to connect to one another and to reflect upon the love that has brought them to this moment.

Ilana finalised the Ketubah with Paul and Rabbi Helbruinn and we then moved on to The Kimberley Gardens in Stkilda. Ilana was accompanied by her parents as she walked down the aisle to the beautifully decorated Chuppah. The Chuppah represents the home they will build together and symbolises that family and friends are always welcome in the couple home.

A Beautiful traditional ceremony took place in the company of their friends and family. Some of the traditions that we captured were Hakafot and The Breaking of the Glass. Harafot “A woman shall go around a man” (Jeremiah 31:22) is a very old custom where the bride circles the groom prior to entering the Chuppah. One explanation is the bride’s circle may be seen as a way of binding the groom to her. Her circuits symbolically create a new family circle, demonstrating her primary allegiance has shifted from her parents to her husband and her husband is now bound more intimately to her and of course the most known of the traditions The Breaking of the Glass. The moment when the glass is broken the bride and groom’s separate lives end and their life as a married couple begins. The act is a reminder that relationships are fragile and must be treated with great care, love and mutual respect. As a photographer the timing of this photograph is crucial, I like to take the photograph just before the foot touches the glass, whilst the foot is still in the air, as a moment later it can look like the groom is just standing on a bag.

After more Wedding Photography in the Gardens with our newly weds and their bridal party (which just so happened to be all family which made it much easier to organize family photography) we moved to The Westin Hotel, Melbourne. Some of my favourite images were taken here and infact my photograph featuring the staircase won a place in The International Photography Award for ‘Framing The Subject’! Which I’m very proud of! We then went to the the amazing Regent Plaza Ballroom for the Reception.

The Plaza Ballroom is situated at the Regent Theatre on Collins Street. It is a beautifully restored, breathtaking Ballroom dating back to 1929. With its elaborate Spanish Rococo architecture, grand staircase entry, magnificent chandeliers and location right in the heart of Melbourne’s city centre, the Plaza Ballroom is an amazing venue for an unforgettable celebration on your perfect day. http://www.plaza-ballroom-event-venue.com.au. Having done a coporate and event photography at the Plaza Ballroom, it was my first time for wedding photography at the Plaza Ballroom, I’ve always loved the elegance and grandeur of the Plaza Ballroom, and so happy with the photos from their wedding here.

I love the images from the traditional dance called the ‘Hora.’ Ilana and Paul were lifted in chairs on the shoulders of their guests. It was a wonderful moment to document everyone looked as though they were having so much fun!

The Sandringham Yacht Club is such a wonderful venue, with its scenic location, lovely staff and amazing food, it was the perfect venue for Chrissy and Lez’s wedding. (More on Chrissy and Lez’s story to come)

The Sandringham Yacht Club is located on Jetty Road, Sandringham Melbourne. Chrissy and Lez were married on the spectacular Southern Podium with a breathtaking view overlooking the bay. It was a wonderful ceremony with great attention to detail, whilst merging the two different cultures. The reception was held in the The Port Phillip Room, the room in which the Balcony wraps around, it was such a stunning backdrop of moody, cloudy skies with the sparkle from the sun on the water and the wind breaking on the waves.

I love this location for the obvious beautiful views and amazing food but also as there are so many amazing spots for Wedding Photography all in walking distance. The wedding had a wonderful, elegant and relaxing feel and I look forward to sharing more of Chrissy and Lez’s story in the future and more images from this wonderful venue and location. www.syc.com.au

Quatt Quatta Wedding & Reception | Anita & Dan

Indoor Quatt Quatta Wedding Ceremony & Reception with Anita & Dan

Anita and Dan met at the start of 2011 in St Kilda whilst both out enjoying the summer evening having dinner and drinks. After the Wedding of close friends Alex and Jen in Sydney, where Dan had been a Groomsmen, Dan proposed to Anita whilst enjoying an evening of luxury and relaxation at Sheraton, Sydney offering Anita his Grandmothers gorgeous sapphire ring!

Come wedding day Anita and Dan, known as ‘Danita’ to their friends described their wedding style as elegant, intimate with an uncomplicated exchange of vows in the company of their family and close friends.

Anita and Dan love the outdoors and in-fact planned for their Wedding Ceremony to be amongst the beautiful outdoors of Quat Quatta however due to the rain the wonderful staff of Quat Quatta moved the ceremony indoors. Quat Quatta and its beautiful interiors made for beautiful wedding photography and a smooth transition from ceremony to pre-dinner drinks and then the reception. We were luckily able to move outdoors to some of my favourite photography spots around Quat Quatta when the rain subsided.

Due to the dull weather outside we had a three lighting set up inside, with our new flash lighting system, while still keeping it quite realistic and of course unobtrusive.

I love a wedding where the weather doesn’t get to the wonderful Bride and groom and they just take it in their stride and enjoy the day. It was a wonderful wedding and we thank you Anita and Dan for having Noble Photography be part of your day! Thanks again to the wonderful staff of Quat Quatta for their hospitality.

Anita and Dan we hope you enjoyed your trip down the Great Ocean Road as husband and wife and we hope you enjoy your honeymoon later in the year. Thanks for sharing your story!

St Michaels Uniting Church & Brighton International Wedding Preview

Clint and Jodys Wedding Photography @ Brighton International

Clint and Jody went to high school together, and on their 9 year anniversary during a holiday in Sydney, Clint took Jody the the Chinese Garden of Friendship after breakfast and popped the question down on one knee. The Chinese garden of friendship is a perfect spot for a perfect proposal, located in Darling Harbor. Its a stunning landscape featuring waterfalls, lakes, exotic plants and hidden stone pathways. A very romantic spot and a very popular Wedding Photography destination in Sydney.

Clint and Jody were married at St Michaels Uniting Church Collins Street Melbourne. The church externally is one of Melbourne’s landmarks and is located in the heart of the city. Internally, the church is breathtaking with its unique bicentennial windows and its surprisingly calm and quiet beauty.

An important part of this union between Jody and Clint was the inclusion of their very much loved little boy Keegan. (I posted on Facebook a preview of this spunky little man from the Wedding Day and have never received so many likes on an image in the first 5 mins, haha) He’s a little star! Sporting a cute little Charcoal and black suit and bow tie to match his daddy’s suit.

Jody described her wedding as Classical and the coming together of two cultures. A union of not only a couple but best friends and the best part of all is being able to share it with their beautiful son.

Following the reception and Wedding Photography, the Reception was held at the contemporary and chic Brighton International. The International is located in Brighton, minutes from the beautiful Brighton beach. This is a striking venue that has been completely renovated and transformed into a world of theatre and drama with mirrored walls, romantic linen drapery, diffused lighting and bold wall paneling. This rebirth together with its manicured gardens and romantic private courtyard, make this one of Melbourne’s leading boutique wedding venues.

The colour scheme of the day was a mix of Charcoal grey, coral & ivory. Jody looked very elegant in her gorgeous Ivory, strapless, fitted gown from Maria Gonzales Bridal Couture . The beautiful, detailed lace bodice and full skirt was accompanied with a gorgeous veil framing her gorgeous long dark hair to complete the look.

It was great being being part of Clint and Jody’s day, Noble Photography wish you and your gorgeous little family a life full of happiness, smiles and laughter. Thanks for being so wonderful to work with on the day! I hope you love the photographs as much as I do. Andrew

Ripponlea Wedding Photography Preview

Sneak Preview of Wedding Photography that I just couldn’t wait to share. There are so many wonderful images that I’m so happy with. More images of this beautiful wedding to follow. Justiene and Peter’s day started at the Windsor Hotel, spring Street Melbourne. (http://www.thehotelwindsor.com.au/) It was a hot day so we were very lucky we were able to escape the heat in such beautiful venues like The Windsor and of course the beautiful Ripponlea.

Ripponlea Estate (www.ripponleaestate.com.au) is one of my favourite venues, and it was fantastic that I actually had the time to shoot there for once and really explore this wonderful location. Justiene and Peter really loved a photograph from my website that was shot at Lindenderry, Red Hill and I knew the perfect spot for a similar image at Ripponlea. It just so happened that whilst there the light was perfect and the image came together nicely.

For this wedding I used my remote flashes, Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, with built in radio triggering, allowed me to work with many more lights and much quicker, here are some of the results.

Do You Believe In Fate? Wedding Photography for Olga and Mitch

A meeting by chance… Olga and Mitch met on the first day of University. Mitch missed an earlier train home from the campus and was forced to catch a later train – the one Olga was catching. When Mitch returned to the platform the next train was delayed, Olga sparked up conversation asking him if he knew anything about it. I guess it was just meant to be…

A very excited Mitch bought an engagement ring with the intention of proposing at a much later date. A day later, bursting with excitement, he couldn’t wait any longer and got down on one knee and proposed to Olga. Olga says she was in her Pj’s and stressing about an assignment, so as you can imagine it came very unexpectedly. ‘I cried and then I sat on his bent knee and couldn’t stop hugging him!’ Olga said. We assume after that not much time was spent on the assignment… haha Too much excitement!

Olga and Mitch were married at Lyrebird falls on a day in December. It was a beautiful December day because it wasn’t too hot and had just stopped raining so everything was fresh, just right for an outdoor wedding! Lyrebird Falls is a boutique Melbourne Wedding Venue set Set within the lush, evergreen forest of the Dandenong Ranges. The Anglican ceremony was followed by Wedding Photography in and amongst the beautiful gardens, followed by the reception.

Olga and Mitch’s favorite moments were the speeches as well as the amount of fun guests had with all the Vodka shots, thanks to the Bride’s side of the family (they’re Belorussian). Olga and Mitch had a candle lighting ceremony for Olga’s family – grandparents, aunties and uncles – who weren’t able to make it on the day as they live in Belaru. We love this idea!

When we asked Olga for any advice for our future brides, she replied- ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff, especially on the wedding day. Pace yourself and your emotions on the day, it goes too quick as it is, so relax and enjoy the day with your new husband, family and friends. ‘

This was a very enjoyable Wedding for Noble Photography also. Thanks for having us be part of your day! We wish you a wonderful life together, full of love, laughs and happiness!

Olga and Mitch on Noble Photography- Noble Photography were skilled at capturing the right moments, this was their greatest strength, which is the most important thing on your wedding day. They were also efficient at directing the photographic course of the day. We were running late after the ceremony and Noble Photography still managed to capture everything we wanted on our day in a way that didn’t disturb the flow and atmosphere of the night.
